Description of Tour
- On arrival, our guests are greeted by our friendly and informative tour guides accompanied by a local mento band, as they are transported back in HISTORY. Guests will discover how sugar was produced, the "old-fashioned" way, by a 100-year-old donkey-powered SUGAR MILL.
- After sampling sugar cane grown on the plantation, and watching as the sugar cane juice is boiled into "wet sugar" in our original COPPER BOILERS our guests learn about the history of RUM MAKING as they relax in our RUM CELLAR. Housed in the original SUGAR MILL of the property, an imposing cut-stone structure, built in 1794 and boasting the largest thatch roof in the Caribbean, the Rum Cellar showcases the history and production of rum in Jamaica as well as displaying a wide variety of rums and rum liqueurs. Guests are invited to sample local rum and see the authentic rum barrels used to age our rums to perfection.
- Our next stop is the JERK GRILL where guests watch as our expert jerk chef prepares the chicken and pork to be served with lunch, in a traditional way, unique to Jamaica. Guests are given a brief history of the origins of this healthy way of preparing meat.
- Our visitors are then invited to explore the Bellefield GREAT HOUSE. Built some 300-years ago, and through exacting restoration, the great house is now a brilliant showcase of life in Jamaica in the 18th century.
- Explore each room, furnished in precise period form and featuring paintings, portraits and arefacts from the family's personnal collection and delight in the breathtaking view of Montego Bay, afforded from the Great House veranda.
- After the guided tour, the rear garden of the Great House provides the perfect setting for our signature "Taste of Jamaica" buffet lunch, accompanied by freshly brewed "Kew Park Coffee".
- Totally relaxed and rested our guests are able to view our tropical gardens or explore our unique shopping experience including unusual souvernirs, local craft and clothing, jerk and rum products before being transported directly back to their hotel.
